In Fear

In Fear

'In fear' release in the Uk ,this autumn on Friday,November 15th 2013.

‘In Fear’ marks the directorial debut of TV veteran Jeremy Lovering. Set on the back roads of Northern Ireland, the low-budget film stars Iain de Caestecker and Alice Englert as a pair of strangers travelling together to a music festival whose journey becomes a nightmare when they’re stalked by a group of masked locals.

I have found several marketing strategies that have been used to promote the movie ,such as their own Facebook page, interviews  and through trailers.

Although I have tried to research as much as i could on 'In Fear' ,it has been much more challenging than researching for Thor 2 as 'In Fear' hasn't been released yet and is quite unpopular in the UK at the moment.

What we have learnt from making our swedes

From the experience of making a swede I have learnt that anyone can produce a film.
Prosumer ; I have consumed and produced work through watching clip from movie Freddie V.S Jason and interpreting my own ideas in to my swede .This was a two way process ,  as I have produced content to be consumed on the internet.

Cross media convergence
I used cross media convergence in the process of our swede making ,as i have designed poster which have been promoted on several social networking websites and have been shared to alert others the release dates of the swede ,This helped as it supported the swede ,as people were convinced by our posters which increased number of views and related  well to our swede.

For example The song 'Sky fall ' by Adele was written especially for the film 'SkyFall ', the lyrics in this song relates to the words which supports the film and persuades Adele's fans to watch the movie as she takes part of it.

Convergent technology
Convergent Technology is hugely important for the communicating with audiences ,gaining a fan base and engaging fans. This was used for the swede i created with my group as my family member and friends saw my swede through their smart phones and laptops on youtube.

Global audiences
Our swede had been globally distributed to all viewers on youtube. We have proof that our swede as been played in other countries. We only do this through the use of internet; the internet has helped massivily for our to be distributed.

Film Industry Lesson 1

Film Industry

Film making is the process of making a film. Film making involves a number of discrete stages including an initial story, idea, or commission, through script writing, casting, shooting, editing, and screening the finished product before an audience that may result in a film release and exhibition.
Film making takes place in many places around the world in a range of economic, social, and political contexts, and using a variety of technologies and cinematic techniques.

Film production involves several major stages:
  • Development — The first stage in which the ideas for the film are created, rights to books/plays are bought and the screenplay is written. Financing for the project has to be sought and green lit.
  • Pre-production—Preparations are made for the shoot, in which cast and film crew are hired, locations are selected, and sets are built.
  • Production—The raw elements for the film are recorded during the film shoot.
  • Post-Production—The images, sound, and visual effects of the recorded film are edited. .
  • Distribution—The finished film is distributed (the film is taken to a festival) and screened in cinemas and/or released on Home entertainment. For example  adverts on youtube,tv,posters or on newspaper front pages the latest movies out ,convincing people to watch the film .

In production, the video production/film is created and shot. More crew will be recruited at this stage, such as the property master, script supervisor, assistant directors, stills photographer, picture editor, and sound editors. These are just the most common roles in film making; the production office will be free to create any unique blend of roles to suit the various responsibilities possible during the production of a film.
A typical day's shooting begins with the crew arriving on the set/location by their call time. Actors usually have their own separate call times. Since set construction, dressing and lighting can take many hours or even days, they are often set up in advance.

Distribution
Films get from the edit houses to the audience by selling the film to companies ready for exhibition.Films get from the edit houses to the audience through legal DVD's that can be bought in shops ,cinemas and illegally through the internet and pirate DVD copies.

Distributors decide to go for a release on one weekend as opposed to another because perhaps they think of weekends when there are no other releases and weekends when there is a holiday so more people can visit the cinema and when there are no important day in the country .

Marketing
marketing involves sharing and promoting the produce/product to the audience by :
  • Trailers
  • Bus ads
  • Happy meals
  • Newspapers/magazines
  • Posters underground
  • Social networking sites
  • Premiers before the film is out
  • Chat shows
The use of bright colours ,bold writing and large images all persuades the audience to watch these movies, which benefits the producers as more money is being paid to watch the movie at the cinema, which increases the popularity in its marketing.

Exhibition
Usually feature films open first ‘theatrically’. A cinema release has long been, and still remains, the most effective way to bestow stature on a film and create demand to see it.But the cinema is just one link in the value chain. After the big screen run, films are released in flexible timescales in a growing range of other formats so consumers may choose how, when and where to watch.
Cinema's are good for entertainment and enjoyment. It is good because you get to watch movies in peace with other people who are watching the same movie aswell and snacks are available to buy  behind the box office, such as drinks and pop corn which helps cinemas to keep going - that's actually where the Movies make all of their money at.However some people may choose the option of staying in at home watching a movie on digital media  such as Blu Ray ,Dvd and free available online as its cheaper, more comfortable ,less noisy and more peaceful.

The Lone Ranger, a 2013 American western action film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films and directed by Gore Verbinski with Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, was the summer’s top bomb. Disney expects a write-down of $160 million to $190 million on the film.Filming was plagued with production problems and budgetary concerns, which at one point led to the film's premature cancellation. The Lone Ranger was released theatrically in the United States on July 3, 2013. The film received mixed to negative reviews and was a commercial failure, grossing $244 million worldwide against an estimated $225 million budget.

“Turbo” the animated snail was squished, taking in $80 million at North American theaters — one of the smallest totals in DreamWorks Animation history. (Only the unfortunately titled “Flushed Away” from 2006 did worse).

Still, appearances can be deceiving. “Pacific Rim,” for instance, has taken in more than $400 million worldwide. The picture’s price tag, however, made it an everyone-or-nothing enterprise. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Brothers spent about $330 million to make and market the film, which could end its run in the red since theater owners take roughly 50 percent of ticket revenue.

Higher-priced 3-D tickets took another tumble, at least in the United States and Canada, as more consumers decided the visual gimmick was not worth paying a $2 to $5 premium per ticket. Family films fared the worst — those glasses don’t fit little faces very well — with “Turbo” setting a new industry low for the format, according to analysts: 3-D screenings accounted for only 25 percent of its opening-weekend results.
Over the weekend, the 3-D concert documentary “One Direction: This Is Us” took in $17 million at domestic theaters, enough for first place, according to Hollywood.com, which compiles box office data. Sony, which has had a particularly rough summer, spent $10 million to make the film. A Sony spokesman on Saturday wrote in an e-mail, “We are off to a fantastic start!”
Six Bollywood films available to watch at Odeon and 'Besharam' coming soon.Bollywood is now the largest film industry in the world, producing over 1,000 films each year.
Nine British films currently out in Odeon cinema. The films released this week are Diana ,Runner Runner,Prisoners, rush ,about time and Insidious 2.Diana , released in the UK on 20 September 2013 ,is a 2013 biographical drama film, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, about the last two years of the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. This movies received  overwhelmingly negative reviews from the British press with an approval rating of just 3% on Rotten Tomatoes. Writing for The Mirror, David Edwards said it was a "cheap and cheerless effort that looks like a Channel 5 mid-week matinee" and awarded the film one star out of five.Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian also awarded it one star out of five and called the film "car crash cinema".
